DBZ Chapter 11: A Warrior in Hell

Bulma, Piccolo, and Kuririn decide to get the other six dragonballs to wish Goku back to life. Piccolo regenerates his arm and tells them he is going to train Gohan and if they get in his way, he will kill them. Piccolo takes Gohan and takes off to train him. In the afterlife, Kami-Sama convinces Goku and Enma Daio that Goku should travel the Serpent Road to Kaio-Sama's for training. Goku is driven to the beginning of the path and is told it is about a million kilometers long. Goku tells the guy who drove him there to tell Baba Uranai to tell Kame Sen'nin not to bring Goku back to life for one year.
DBZ Chapter 12: Gohan and Piccolo

Piccolo lands in Gohan's soon-to-be training grounds and wakes up Gohan by dropping him into a pond. He tells Gohan to stop crying or he'll slit his throat. Gohan quiets down a bit and Piccolo tells him that Goku died from giving his life to kill the "kidnapper." Piccolo tells him Goku's death is not the problem; the oncoming saiyajins are. Piccolo tells Gohan he's got to learn to use his power so that they can defeat the saiyajins. To prove Gohan has powers, Piccolo throws Gohan at a mountain. Before hitting it, Gohan's powers awaken and he blows away the mountain before he slams into it. Gohan tells Piccolo he doesn't want to be a fighter and Piccolo tells Gohan he can become a scholar as soon as they defeat the saiyajins. Piccolo has Gohan take off his surcoat and Piccolo tells him he can't be trained by his dad because his dad already has proven what his training abilities are worth. Coincidentally, Goku sneezes as he runs along the Serpent Road.
DBZ Chapter 13: Son Gohan, the Inconsolable

Piccolo tells Gohan his first task is to survive in the wilderness for six months. If he's still alive when Piccolo comes back, he will be trained. Piccolo tells Gohan not to even think about escaping because the whole area is surrounded by desert. Meanwhile, Kami-sama senses that Piccolo is different from before. Though he is still evil, it now feels like the violence he once had is gone, because he is definitely no longer like Piccolo Dai-mao. Kami-sama also reveals that perhaps Piccolo knows that they only have one year to live too. He also reveals that if Piccolo dies, he dies as well, and vice versa. That means the dragonballs will dissapear with them. Back at the wilderness, Gohan is chased by a bloodthirsty dinosaur. He escapes by using his powers. Unfortunately, he winds up very, very far above the ground on top of a mountain (you know, those rock-pillar-mountain things they use all the time in Dragonball). Late that night, he wakes up to find apples that have mysteriously appeared. He eats them anyway and yells out that they're sour and taste bad, angering Piccolo. As Piccolo watches Gohan sleeping, he decides that if Gohan can't survive on his own after this then his [Gohan's} powers are useless to the oncoming battle against the saiyajins.
DBZ Chapter 14: Deeds Done by the Full Moon

Later that night, Gohan wakes up to go to the bathroom. Piccolo wakes up as well and watches Gohan. When finished, Gohan notices there is alot of night for nighttime, and turns around to see a full moon. Unfortunately, this causes the saiyajin oozaru transformation, causing Gohan to become a giant were-monkey. As Piccolo wonders what the heck is going on, Gohan begins to destroy everything around him. Piccolo remembers Raditz telling about the saiyajin's transformations to the moon, and realizes the moon is the source of Gohan's transformation. He immediately blows away the moon, causing Gohan to turn back to normal. Piccolo observes the tail must've also caused the transformation, and takes it off (also knowing it could be a possible weakness of Gohan's). He gives Gohan new clothes and a sword and leaves.
DBZ Chapter 15: On Heaven and Earth Goku and Gohan's Training Begins!

Chichi is driving to Kame Sen'nin's house with Ox-King, her father. She has realized something's wrong because Goku and Gohan didn't come home last night. Meanwhile, Bulma has finised repairing Raditz's scouter, and has modified it to display power levels that they can read. She turns to see everyone's asleep and she blows holes through their head with a machine gun (slapstick humor, like the simpsons). She gets Kame Sen'nin to stand up and reads his power leve as 139 (his power level is the same throughout ALL of Dragonball). Next, she reads Kuririn's higher than his, at 206. To see if it's telling the truth, she reads the turtle as .001, indicating the scouter works. Then, she reads Tenshinhan's power level, followed by Yamcha and Piccolo. Next, Yajirobei shows up, telling Kuririn to report to Karin's Tower and to bring Tenshinhan, Yamcha, and Chaozu for special training (with Yajirobei). They are to be trained by Kami-sama himself. He also tells them not to bring Goku back for a year. After Yajirobei leaves, Chichi and Ox-king arrive. After they tell them what happened to Goku and Gohan, Chichi faints. Six months later, we see Tenshinhan, Kuririn, Yamcha, Yajirobei, and Chaozu under the training of Kami-sama. We also see Goku still running to Kaio-sama's and Gohan getting along pretty well in the wilderness. Piccolo observes Gohan easily evading the dinosaur and cutting off part of it's tail to eat and decides it's time for training.
