Dragonball - The Saiyajin The Saiyajin are a warrior race from the Planet Vegeta. The planet was originally called Planet Plant when it was ruled by its technological race. One day the planet's other, more physical-oriented race, started a war with the technological race. The saiyajin ended the war when they transformed into their oozaru forms. The Saiyajin are fighters who love to fight. They gain a great amount of strength when recovering from nearly dying in battle. After the Saiyajin were taken under the control of Freezer, they were used to wipe out the life on other planets in order to put them up for sale. The Saiyajin are born with tails, which are necessary in order to transform into their oozaru form, which is a huge, powerful beast. Most Saiyajin required this transformation in order to conquer planets, since many weren't very powerful. These transformations require a certain light emission that can come from a full moon or an artificial source. This emission serves as a catalyst for a chemical reaction in their tails. If the tail isn't strengthened with training, it becomes a weakness. Weaker Saiyajin are sent as children or babies to weaker planets, while the stronger, adult saiyajin are sent to fight more powerful forms of life. One day, Freezer began to see the Saiyajin as a possible threat to his power. As he began to see several powerful fighters emerge and heard the legend of the "possible Super Saiyajin" transformation, he decided to exterminate the Planet Vegeta while most of the Saiayjin were there. Right before he was going to destroy the planet, the King of the Saiyajin attempt to end Freezer's reign of terror but are unsuccessful. Freezer then destroyed the planet with one, large fireball. Saiyajin Traits Full-blooded saiya-jin have tails. Half-blooded saiya-jin sometimes have tails (Gohan did, but Trunks did not) They have black hair (except for Trunks) They gain strength by training or improving Not much of a maximum power level, but gain extra strength by transforming to full moons. Their transformed (oozaru) stage gives them 10 times as much power as they have in their humanoid stage. But they can only transform if they currently have tails. Vegeta explains that moonlight is only sunlight reflected, but only when reflected by the moon does it contain green-spectrum radiation. He also explains that when the moon is full, its radiation exceeds 17 million zeno units per second. When saiyajin absorb that amount through their eyes, a reaction is set off in specific gland in their tails, causing their oozaru transformation to begin. If they don't work out their tales, they become weak points that, when squeezed, nearly paralyze them Interesting Facts Goku was born to be an inferior saiya-jin with a power level of 2 Trunks was the only saiya-jin we see not to start out with black hair because he is only half saiya-jin. Saiya-jin were from the Planet Vegeta, which was originally called Planet Plant, before the saiya-jin became the dominant life form on it Super Saiyajin Traits Goldish Blonde hair, sticking up Enveloped by a glow of gold light, indicating they are in this stage or above Generally thought of by saiyajins as "killing machines", until Goku became one Explanation The first super saiya-jin that we see in Dragonball Z is Goku. He became super saiya-jin when his rage is finally released after his best friend, Kuririn, is killed. In order for a saiya-jin to reach this stage, the saiya-jin must have extreme rage built up, bringing up the desire for revenge, pushing down the limit of a saiya-jin, and going beyond. Becoming a super saiya-jin greatly increases power, speed, and agility. Interesting Facts Since Goku was the first to reach this stage, Vegeta acquired an extreme desire to become one as well, causing him to go into training again. After intense training, Vegeta was also able to achieve this level. Since Vegeta had trained so hard, he was VERY strong not being SSJ. But when he finally went SSJ while training, he was immensly strong and easily destroyed Android 19. Gohan first becomes a super saiya-jin in the Room of Spirit and Time, when he realizes how he has always had to depend on others to help him and was never there for them when they died. Trunks first became super saiya-jin when Gohan dies in the battle against Androids 17 and 18 (Trunks Special). Vegeta first becomes super saiya-jin when he gets angry at himself, realizing he's reached his limit. He says, "I can never beat Kakkarot like this!" and undergoes the first transformation. Super Saiyajin 2 Traits Still gold hair Hair now in triagular strips, rather than streaked upwards Still gold light around the saiya-jin Of course, they are much stronger than earlier forms of saiya-jin. Explanation The good thing is is transforming into an SSJ2 is it is a little easier than going from a saiya-jin to a super saiya-jin. SSJ2 resembles SSJ except for the triangular strips of hair (rather than all the hair being streaked upwards). And of course, they are much more powerful than super saiya-jin. Interesting Facts Gohan was the first to turn SSJ2. After the shocking death of Android 16, Gohan's true inner rage was finally released, enabling him to reach this level. Goku reached this level sometime during his training in heaven. We are not shown when exactly but it is hinted several times that he is at this level during his fight with Majin Vegeta. Vegeta reached this level when he was charmed into Ma-jin Vegeta by Babidi. He only allowed himself to become charmed because he wanted to reach a level that would bridge the gap between him and Goku's power. Super Saiyajin 3 Traits No eyebrows Vicious Look Very long, golden hair Immense strength and power Tires out quickly Explanation This is the final saiya-jin transformation in Dragonball Z. Goku was the first saiya-jin to reach this stage. He first became SSJ3 in the Buu Saga. It requires much more strength to reach this stage and the only down side is it makes the SSJ3 use much strength to fight. This causes the SSJ3 to get tired quickly. Interesting Facts Goku is the only saiya-jin ever to reach this stage in Dragonball Z. Gotenks is the first combined (fused) saiya-jin to reach this stage. Super Saiyajin 4 Traits Black Hair, rather than Gold Tail grows back Red around the eyes Red fur over most of the chest Explanation This was a new saiya-jin stage spun off of Super Saiya-jin Stage 3. It is arguable as to whether or not Akira Toriyama had anything to do with this stage. All I've heard is that Mr. Toriyama's only contributions to DBGT were a few sketches and ideas. In order to reach this stage, the saiya-jin must transform into a golden oozaru (a superior form of what they transformed into to destroy planets) and then transform into SSJ4.
