The Rebirth of Fusion!! Goku and Vegeta!
(Dragonball Z Movie #12)
Written August 4, 2000
Ah, Dragonball Z Movie 12, entitled 'The Rebirth of Fusion!! Gokou and Vegeta'.
This movie is alot shorter than it could've been. This is a very good movie because
the pros far outway the cons, and yes there are a few cons.
The music in this was really good. It starts out with the wonderful opening, 'We Gotta
Power.' Then, the BGM gets better as the movie goes on. There are several varieties of
BGM in this movie: corny, happy, action, sad, intoduction themes, and others. The battle
music and Vegeta's/Gogeta's introduction themes are simply outstanding. I especially
love the successful fusion music that plays near the end. I only wish that this music
could be on CD somewhere. It sucks that the DBZ 5CD set only went up to Movie 9 or so
and didn't have much from the Buu Saga...
There are several humorous parts in this movie. The whole Fat Gogeta thing along with
Paikuhan's cursing to break the barrier was really funny. Shenron's asking them if
they have another wish was really funny as well. What I liked about this movie is there
isn't too many scenes with Goten, Trunks, or Mr. Satan. While they are all funny at
times, they also can get annoying (Movie 11, anyone?).
The plot of this Movie was really good. The whole idea of having the dead come back,
causing chaos all over the earh was interesting. It was also cool how we got to see
Freeza and some other villains again. Not only that but we got to see several characters
for a movie: Goku, Gohan, Bulma, Videl, Chibi Trunks, Goten, Vegeta, Enma Daio, the four
Kaio-sama's, Dai Kaio-sama, Paikuhan, Gotenks, and Gogeta. Yes, his name is Gogeta
because Goku is the superior form of the fusion. The ending turns out decently but it
would've been nice if we could've seen Gogeta a little longer. Janemba seemed really
stupid at first but when it transforms into its... um more mobile form it becomes one
of the coolest movie villains.
The copy I have of Movie 12 isn't exactly the best copy, but I can still say that the
animation was done very well, especially since this is the first movie with computer
animation. Janemba's dissapearing/reappearing ability was animated very well, along
with the part where Goku and Vegeta successfully fuse. Although, some parts weren't
handled so well. Take, for example, the part where Goten, Trunks, and later Gotenks
fights Hitler's army. The explosions looked very... uh.. tacky. Also, everyone was
outlined a little thicker than usual on many scenes on the earth.
So, all in all, I would recommend this movie to all DBZ fans because it has a little bit
of everything. I would even recommend this to impatient DBGT watchers who can't stand
talking, because this movie gets to the point real quick and has a good amount of action.
So make sure to buy this from a fansub distributor if you haven't already. This is one
of the best DBZ Movies of them all, even though there may be a few cons here and there.
