"Showing Others the Light"
Written: March 31, 2000
There is something I love doing... and that's showing others the magic of Dragonball.
It is something that I have been doing for a long time, and it is pretty much the main reason
for the existence of this site.
I remember sitting around one day, thinking about this, when I realized this is the main reason
why I have created a Dragonball website.
Showing others Dragonball (the Japanese version) just feels so good.
I have influenced a large amount of people into either becoming either newbies to the show, or deeper
fans than they were before.
Today, in school, I found that alot of people were Dragonball Z fans.
Unfortunately, most of them had only seen the Japanese version with those clips that are all over
page pirates' sites.
Since I am lucky enough to own a CD Rewritable Drive, I was able to bring many
Dragonball Z Music Videos and clips to school.
This is a computer class, so I am able to show them alot of things.
Showing them scenese from Dragonball they have never seen feels great, and I hope to
show them even more soon.
One of the other main points I am trying to get at is that it is very sad that most of them
had only been exposed to the dub.
There is so much more to Dragonball Z than what they had seen, and I am determined to show them the light.
I gave them URL's to some of the best DBZ websites, because they loved
the music videos the most of all.
But, seeing the looks on their faces when they saw scenes from DBZ Movie 9, the Cell Games,
and other parts in Dragonball and Dragonball Z was great!
I just hope that they will go out and buy some fansubs, so that they can see what they are missing out on.
Throughout my time of being a Dragonball fan, I have shown Dragonball to alot of people, hoping
to make fans out of them. I have succeeded decently so far, and I just hope that this website will help me to succeed
even more.
Most likely 90% of all Dragonball Z fans out there have not been exposed to Dragonball or
Dragonball GT.
I think FUNimation should be concentrating on Dragonball more, because it gives you
so much more knowledge about the characters than just starting out in Dragonball Z would do.
You learn about how everyone got to know each other, how the ones who had died before Dragonball Z had died, and
the origins of several characters (Piccolo Jr. anyone?).
I just hope that they go to Dragonball when they're finished with Dragonball Z.
Moving straight to Dragonball GT would be a huge mistake on FUNimation's part.
If you haven't seen any Dragonball yet, I recommend going to your local comic store or
Japanimation's DBZ Specialty Store
to buy the manga.
Teaching others about the true, Japanese Dragonball/Z/GT is truly a wonderful thing to do.
It's especially cool to see the looks on their faces when they see a character they never knew existed,
or a clip they have never seen before.
It is the reason this site exists and is something I hope to do for a long time.
Try to make your friends fans of this series too, if they aren't already.
And, if you can, show them how much better the Japanese version is...
Whether it's movieclips, or actual fan/FUNsubs themselves.
Now, if only FUNimation could be more like Sunrise...
