Resist Despair! The Ultimate Surviving Fighters... Gohan and Trunks
(a.k.a. Trunks TV Special)

Written July 2, 2000

Out of the two DBZ TV Specials, I'd have to say this one is the better one for various reasons. First of all, this TV Special has loads of action and drama. This also seems to be the more popular of the two and I can see why.

I can't really say much about the animation of this one, since my copy was of B or B- quality... However, the music in this is fantastic. It uses lots of my favorite BGM and the ending theme, Aoi Kaze no Hope, is a very nice song. The music used during battles and the dramatic scenes fits very well.

What I really like about this TV special is how they show an alternate future of the DBZ timeline. They could've simply left what had been explained and reminesced by Trunks and gone on with life, but they went out of there way to show us ALL of what happened in the alternate future, which was very interesting and fun to see. I'm not sure when this was first aired in Japan, but if it was aired before the grown-up Gohan was shown in the episodes, then this must've been very interesting to its audience.

There are still a few things I am wondering about in this special. First of all, it would've been nice if it could've shown how Trunks got his sword... He just suddenly has it near the end which I thought was kind of odd. Also, when Gohan loses an.. um.. appendage there was a lack of blood.. maybe even no blood at all...

If you're looking for a cool, interesting story and plenty of action and drama, then I recommend getting this tape. It should cost anywhere from 6 to 12 dollars on the internet, so it isn't that expensive. What's going to be really nice is when a subbed version of this comes out for DVD.. that'll be the day. So go to a fansubber, buy it, and enjoy!
