The Galaxy's In Trouble! The Clash of the Great Warriors
(Dragonball Z Movie #6)

Written August 9, 2001

There are several reasons I can give for why this is one of the better Dragonball Z movies, and I will list them. First of all, it gets straight to the point. There's no fooling around at the beginning of the movie as it starts off with the plot right away. This movie also has lots of action in it. Also, for once the villain wasn't destroyed by a character reaching a new level of power or by a Genki-dama (thank Kami)! And last but not least, it's the first movie Vegeta's in (woohoo)!

Even though I have a jumpy fansub of this movie as I review it, I did notice that this movie had its downs visual-wise. Some characters (especially Goku) are sometimes drawn rather strangely. The animation isn't as good as some other movies that I've seen. It seems to look more like the TV series than some of the others. I'm not saying the animation wasn't good, it just wasn't as good as it could've been. The Metal Koolers look really cool though, as do his robots and the explosions of energy caused by Goku and Vegeta.

I enjoyed the music used in this movie, but not as much as I enjoyed Movie 9's, Movie 7's, and Movie 12's music. As far as I know, all of its music can be found on the 5-disk DBZ Background Music set. So, I don't feel compelled into searching for its soundtrack as much as I do for Movie 7's (can't find one part on the 5-disk OST, argh!).

I really enjoyed this movie's action scenes. Some scenes that stand out to me are the fight against Kooler after Vegeta showed up and when Gohan, Piccolo, and Kuririn all fought the robots together. This movie also had a good share of humor (the ending with Goku and Vegeta and what the robot tells Gohan, the Namekians, and the others) and a pretty good plot. I say pretty good because it doesn't make sense how any part of Kooler could've survived being thrown into the sun and why the heck didn't Piccolo use that super-powerful attack earlier?

Though I suppose you could argue the ending as being a "one shot kill" one, I think it stands out from the other movies in that a Genki-dama isn't used and they don't reach a new level of power and defeat the villain. Although, this movie was just too short, being just 45 minutes long. The final fight with Kooler could've been a lot longer (and better) than it was.

The bottom line of how I feel about this movie is it's one of the really good DBZ movies, but (for reasons listed above) not one of my top favorites (#13, #12, #7, and #9 hold those positions for me). I'm not sure why so many people think this is the best DBZ movie, but it is an enjoyable one to watch, even more than once. If you are someone who loves action and anime movies that get right to the point, then this one is for you. If you're a DBZ fan, this is a must-have.
