Battle of the Strongest vs. Strongest
(Dragonball Z Movie #5)

Written October 6, 2000

Wow.. um.. this was a great movie. I am writing this review after the very first time I have seen it and let me say, I am impressed. There alot of good things that stand out in this movie and I'll try and list them for you.

The artwork was something that I liked alot in this movie. All of the oranges and reds of the sky during the evening battles looked great. Goku's powerups are also something that were well done. It was also kind of cool to see one part from one of Cooler's henchman's point of view. The part where Cooler fires a blast into a lake looked really cool too, with all of the water flowing into the gaping hole he just created. There were also some nice green colors used to draw all of the nature backgrounds which I thought looked really nice.

There was also some great background music used for this movie. Several good Freezer/Saiyajin Saga background themes were used. I didn't feel that the closing theme was as good as Movie 7-13's but it was alright. And of course, the classic opening Cha-la Head-Cha-la was used at the beginning of this movie.

And now, the plot. The villain, Kooler, is definitely one of my favorite DBZ movie villains. The main reason is because Freezer's voice actor, Ryusei Nakao, voiced him. Plus, he is involved with the actual Dragonball Z storyline. His second form in this movie looked awesome! The story for this movie played out fairly well but it would've been nice to see how everyone got back to normal at the end and how Kooler got to the sun so fast. The action in this movie is played out well, but it would've been nice to've seen Super Saiyajin Goku fight Kooler a bit longer than he did.

My overall review for this movie is it is one of the better Dragonball Z movies. Not as good as Movies 7, 8, 9, 12, or 13 but it is still a good one that I throughly enjoyed watching. If you are having trouble deciding on which of the earlier DBZ movies to get, then I recommend buying this one. I bought it at Darbura's Fansubs.
